Abstract

Hadith, which contains the Prophet's sayings, actions, or decisions, do not emerge without a background. Changes and differences in conditions after the hadith emerged indirectly affect its authenticity level. Therefore, developing ways to understand hadith and adapting its understanding to contemporary situations is crucial. Yusuf Al-Qaradawi and K.H. Ali Mustafa Ya’qub are two prominent figures in contemporary hadith studies. This research aims to explore the hadith understanding methodologies of both figures and analyze the similarities and differences in their methodologies. The method used in this research is qualitative with a library research approach. The results show that Yusuf Al-Qaradawi is known for his approach based on maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah (the objectives of Islamic law), while K.H. Ali Mustafa Ya’qub emphasizes the authenticity of hadith through criticism of sanad and matn. The thoughts of both become an inspiration for contemporary academics and scholars to always maintain the purity of hadith while enlivening it as a source of moral, social, and spiritual values.
